Although during this exercise many made jokes or laughed at how some people almost fell when their friends caught them, ect. ect. But, I'll always remember what I said standing on that table.. "I'm most afraid of hurting the people I love, but I know God & friends are there to catch me when I fall." Even though it's just one sentance, one little thing.. It's my biggest fear.
I constantly get smacked by this fear, because it sometimes drags me into all the accesorries that come with it. I know my right from wrongs, but I don't seem to know how to choose right from wrong. But, I have to admit, that was the first time in a long time.. and it felt like old times. Although, I have to think how it will effect EVERYONE. Sometimes I just get caught up in it all, but I have a big EGO and I seem to not really understand enough to care with a full heart.
When I should be thinking of myself in this situation, I seem to care more about not hurting the people I love.
Sincerely,
Kathleen Michelle Reichenberger

ReplyDeleteWhat a noble thought, but you must be careful to be discerning. What do you mean by "should be?" By whose standards?
Society teaches us to do what makes us happy and forget the people who think otherwise. If you follow this, then you're bound to hurt the ones you love because you're putting yourself first.
Christ teaches us to put Jesus first, then to think of others before ourselves, in a way that glorifies Jesus, and lastly to think of ourselves. This doesn't mean, however, that you totally neglect your wants and desires, so "not thinking about yourself at all" is not what the Bible says.
"Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others" (Phil 2:4)
Paul keep in mind that we still need to look to our interests, although he says we need to "count others more significant than ourselves."
But how do we know how much to think about ourselves?
The Bible. It's hard to know what to say about your situation because you aren't really revealing a whole lot about what your situation is, but I guarantee you the Bible has an answer to your problem. I hope you can share more of your situation with a fellow brother or sister who consistently points you to Christ. You're free to shoot me an e-mail (ian.not.julian@gmail.com) too -- I'm all ears. God & we will be there to catch just like we were that day at VBS.
Seek God's will, Kathleen. PRAY PRAY PRAY about it. Please don't let this problem linger. Like you've acknowledged with other problems, God gives you these things to test you, and to cause you to look to HIM for answers.
You've been growing so much in the Lord, Kathleen, and I hope that this trial continues to spur that on.
